Icarus, the son of Daedalus, while escaping from Crete an isolated island with his father (using the wings Daedalus had made) he flew too close to the sun and the wax melted. He fell into the Aegean Sea and drowned.

Icarus is a symbol of Man overreaching his limits only to weep at the consequences for the rest of his life.
