Citizen Scientific Workshop is a production and development company based in Boise, ID. We create Precious Plastic machines that are aligned to North American materials, electrical configuration, with emphasis on ease of use, committed support, and innovative new development.  Since building our initial Precious Plastic prototypes in 2018, Citizen Scientific Workshop has produced hundreds of machines for pioneering grassroots recycling organizations from small businesses to research institutions, non-profits, Global NGOs, and educational programs. 

Here we design, manufacture and market standard and tailor-made "MADE IN FRANCE" recycling machines. We strive to make quality, durable, design products while keeping the artisanal side. Each machine is manufactured in direct connection with a dozen local partners and workshops (less than 20 kilometers away) in order to reduce transport, its ecological impact and support local know-how. Launched since October 2019 on the basis of Precious Plastic, our shredders, injectors, extruders, sheets press and other recycling machines are constantly evolving by our team.

Seeing plastic not being recycled and ending up in a landfill - or worse - has always saddened me. I think it's an exceptional material, and we should treat is as a very precious one, limiting its use to durable products and avoiding single-use application if possbile. And always recycling it! I've been inspired by the Precious Plastic community, though I'm still operating from a flat with basic equipment and none of their wonderful machines. For now at least :) I collect discarded single-use or broken plastic items locally, from friends and organisations, plus some street clean-up every now and then. I then wash, dry and sort the plastic according to its type and colour. I use two of the most common thermoplastics: High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polypropylene (PP). As a rule the plastic is then cut, if needed, and melted in an oven. I use metal or silicone moulds, depending on the product.
